So basically I saw a post on my Facebook that the dreaded n*v* has been going around again. My friend who sits next to me in two classes (and I can't move because of assigned seats) had "stomach problems" last Wednesday. And I know that can be a million things and it's probably stress because he's got a lot going on. But it still terrified me. So I skipped those classes but I can't keep missing them to avoid him until he's not contagious. And even if I did, it doesn't help that it's "going around" according to that post.
Plus I've been loosening up lately on my compulsions because I'm trying to recover but of course it's easy to recover until a bug goes around or you get triggered.
I guess I'd just like some advice or some reassurance that I'll be okay and I don't have to resort to the old days when emet made me stay at home for weeks or wash myself so much my hair fell out, or scrub my body down with Clorox after a shower or something stupid and harmful like that.
I mean today I went out and put my hair up, and I haven't washed it all day and I'm so proud!! But now that it's going around I feel like the bug might have drifted into my hair somehow? I don't know.
I just really don't want to relapse into my old ways. I want to get better and it's hard when there's something supposedly going around

Hey! It sounds like you'll be absolutely fine. Just do your best to wash your hands like normal (NOT harsh chemicals!!!). if you do that there'll be no reason for you to get s*. I understand of course, that it's extremely uncomfortable being around people who have been s*...it's nerve wracking. When my friends would come back to school from being sick, I'd to do similar things you do, compulsive hand washing and such, thinking that it was super contagious... but the reality is, you can't get it that easily! as for outbreaks, according to the CDC website, cases have sharply fallen! that person on FB probably was exaggerating, honestly. so just hang in there a bit longer, we're on our way out of "that" season I hope you can keep making progress with this, I wish you a lot of luck!

It did for only a couple days at my job and then it seemed to have disappeared for now. Way better than having it going around for a month. Blegh. Edit: A friend that teaches says that she has been getting kids with upset tummies and respiratory stuff. So yes it is around.
