I was in the bathroom when a girl came in and had d*. Soon after, I smelled it. Since you can catch it by breathing in particles, and smelling is just having particles in your nose, can you catch it this way? Is it different kinds of particles? I'm not panicking but genuinely curious.

It does seem logical that those particles are the same particles, doesn't it? Perhaps not, though. Odor particles are probably different than the viral particles. I really can't be of help here! I would be nervous about it if it was me. I am glad to hear you're just curious mostly. I have always heard that the odors from poo are from the bacteria that are in it all the time. So...it could be that bacteria is responsible for the smell, and the the virus particles don't smell at all, and stayed in the toilet. Meh.

When particles get into your body through your nose, that's when you smell. However, the particles don't go down to the stomach, they just stay where they are and then somehow go away once you stop breathing particles in. Just plain breathing in the odor of something for a short period of time will most likely leave you perfectly fine, unless it's something perfume-y that gives you a headache or something so gross that you feel like gagging. cdn.cheftalk.com/f/f1/f1b9c131_ENT_sense_flavors.gif

I've been right next to people who have v* and i've never caught anything. I guess it's normal for us to automatically assume someone has d* because of a virus. Hopefully it's cause she just had too much coffee or something. Really great that you're not panicking though.

I remember in my 8th grade science class the teacher said that when you are smelling something, it's because particles from that object actually enter into your nose. So if you smell poop, you actually have poop particles in your nose (which was horrifying to our 13 year old selves). BUT since the virus isn't actually the poop, it's just in the poop, I doubt you're actually breathing in the virus. Also, I'm pretty sure you can't catch a SV from smelling v* or d*. You have to actually ingest the viral particles somehow.

You'd have to actually consume the d* to be at any risk, so basically you're fine unless you're ingesting it, which I'm sure you are not doing!!!

99.99% sure you won't catch it from smelling it. Like Jess said, you have to basically ingest it (or be literally right next to someone as they're v*ing.)
