So I've been reading the Thrive book and Rob Kelly mentions a quote by Emile Coue, "when the conscious will and imagination are in conflict, the imagination invariably gains the day." Just like how a few days ago I had anxiety, kept imagining being n*, and eventually became n* just by thinking I would. I then decided each time I had an anxious thought ("Am I n*?" or "will I v*?" or "what if this isn't a stomach ache and this is a sv?") I would just imagine I'm a person without emetophobia. I'd let the anxiety happen, ignore it, and then imagine I don't have emetophobia at all. It was really hard at first, but I got better at it and I'm able to get rid of an anxious thought within seconds, and completely forget about it, no matter where I am.
This has worked better for me than any other technique I've tried. I used to try to fight the anxiety but I found the more I resisted, the more power it had over me, and the more n* (anxiety induced n*) I became. I then decided instead of fighting it, I could acknowledge it, and then let it go.
Note: I want to add, that I never actually v*ed from imagining I would, and I would imagine v*ing daily and get myself worked up and anxious about it. The worst that I've suffered is anxiety-induced n* and that never lead to v*.
