I have been doing quite well for some time but of course kids are back to school not so panic is beginning to rear it's ugly head!
My son holds his poops in when he needs one but never really more than a day or two. Today I had a phone call from his teacher to say he had pooped himself (this he never does) but she didn't mention diarrhoea.
Later on, his Grandma picked him up from school (normal time) and as soon as he got home he went for a poop. His Grandma said it wasn't watery just a sloppy stool but it was bright orange with red bits (sorry tmi). So of course now I'm panicking that would be classed as diarrhoea.
He seems ok in himself, he's eating and drinking normally but I'm panicking it's going to turn in to something more!
He has eaten two lots of breakfast today (peanut butter and chic spread on crumpets) and a bowl of granola. He has had these before and nothing untoward happened.
Last night he decided he wanted tomato soup for his tea so I assume this is where the colour came from. He he a chicken burger at school today with salad (inc tomatoes) and he's eaten ok at his Grandmas.
Am I worrying over nothing? Do kids just get loose stools sometimes like you or I! I'm so frightened!
If it was a virus would he be going more frequently and not eating? Please help I'm going out of my mind!

I think you're worrying over nothing - a cold at the worst IF he has symptoms. From what you've said, it sounds to me like his stomach is just a little bit upset and he will be okay in 1 or 2 days.

Thank you!
Nope, he has no other symptoms at all! My husband (his dad) has had a cold for about a week but everyone else is fine.
I know he's been a bit apprehensive to go to school so wonder if it's a combo of a bit of anxiety, fruit in his granola (and raisins last night) and the fact he kept his poop in!
It's not watery at all and has only happened once I think (the teacher didn't mention his first lot being loose).
His dad went out earlier and said 'you don't need to go bleaching everything he's fine'. As if I'm not going to bleach! Haha
I just dread the night! I hope it's nothing

I would bet on that being the cause. If he's apprehensive at school and holds it in as long as he can, he was probably waiting until he got home to poop but accidentally let a little bit out. Plus if I ate what he ate I'd have to poop too! After switching to a healthy diet last year I noticed that I had to go more often - it just passed right though you.

Thank you!
He remained fine thankfully 😊
I know it's inevitable the dreaded s* will happen at some point in the near future (I see it as he's about 'due' as he hasn't had any since December 2015)! I hate feeling like this!

Kids v more than adults in most cases, yes. But don't forget to live your life and enjoy your time with him as a kid! Childhood will pass very fast and then he will have a much better immune system.
