So...my son had to be admitted to children's hospital over the weekend for a bowel obstruction. On Monday my husband came down with v and f. Typos morning my oldest kiddo started having d and this afternoon my middle child started v and d. I am first of all scared that my son will get it and he will end up dehydrated after what he just went through. Plus it's about 2 days until christmas. I am worried that the last two of us are going to have it then. I hate this season. It's been almost as bad as 4 years ago when the stney strain hit!

It'll be okay! Remember to clean everything well with bleach and keep the sick separated from the well as best as you can. Try to eat plenty of fruits and veggies and maybe some supplements, and sleep (as much as you can). And if you end up with sick people on christmas, just remember that it's really an approximation of the date and there's nothing wrong with postponing a bit. Either way, it'll end up fine!

Agreed w/ Koiz...hand washing is crucial. No sharing of utensils, cleaning with a bleach solution when necessary (toilets, hard flooring etc.)
One year when I was 18 (granted I was older but still, I am a Christmas junkie) we had an appraiser come to look at our (awful) house. We had to do a rush paint job on already awful crumbling walls and the ceiling...and we were doing this during Christmas and even afterwards. We postponed festivities all the way to January 20 lol. It was weird but hey, gotta do what you gotta do. Your kids sound young so I assume they still believe in Santa? You could tell them that Santa wants to make sure everyone is well rested before gift giving and that he could make a special pit stop just for them! Or maybe put a few out ...of course, just assuming people will even be ill then which may not even happen.
It's not fun being sick around the holidays (or at all, but it's a bummer!) When I had sv* as a kid it was always around this time to Jan. I actually remember waking up one morning on the couch when I was sick. Looked at a blue Christmas ball on my tree and saw my reflection. Then bent over and v* into a bucket immediately afterwards my mom conveniently put next to me while I was still sleeping. Always tell her that story when I see that ornament lol So I know the feeling well.
Hope you guys are all healthy and well and have a great holiday with no illness or worry !! Just keep up with hygiene, diet and good sleep.

It's so frustrating how this phobia takes away a lot of the enjoyment of this time of year for us.
Try your best to just remember that: You are not sick yet - try to focus on that. Also remember even if you did come down with it, as much as it would suck to be sick for the holiday of all days, you're going to get through it and it's only going to last a short amount of time. You are perfectly capable of handling it if it happens, but you don't even know that it will happen so try to just keep yourself focused on other things as much as possible.

Bit of a story time: Last time I was sick, I was in germany for my grandpa's funeral and my entire family (4 of us) were in a tiny tiny apartment. My little sister, ~11 at the time, got it first and was sick every ~20 minutes all night long. I got sick 2 times (I was ~13) about 5 hours after she got it. Then my mom got sick once about 12 hours later, but the rest of us were already flying home, as she planned on staying to grieve with her family for a few days. My dad never got sick, though he did have d*. It'll be okay!

Oh goodness sdd. I hope that's all it is...just stomach cramps and nothing more. I agree with the above poster. Stomach bugs can hit differently. In September my daughter had a sv and v twice (multiple times each episode) and had d. My husband got it three days later, v once, had a high fever, and no d. I got it NINE days later and v twice and no d. I'm a prime example that the sv germ stays in poo for 2 weeks... my daughter was still in diapers and had been having a hard time going potty. I had to really help her go. I rinsed my hands but didn't wash them. (Yuck I know, I learned my lesson!!).. the NEXT day I was sick! Moral of the story, keep up with hand washing and cleaning and you'll be fine! But keep up with the handwashing for awhile. I'll never make that mistake again. 😒😉

Thanks all. The d started a few hours ago. I was able to participate in Christmas activities all day before I got too sick to participate, so I am thankful. Laying in bed trying not to move and waiting for the anti-diarrheal meds to finally kick in-I hope!

SDD - I would not take anti D, actually. Let it come out, not to be too graphic. The quicker it leaves your bowels/stomach, the better you will feel. It is a being in your body that is forcing its way out. Anti D will make it last longer and you don't want it to come out through v. Just focus on hydration and rest. I know it is awful and I am sorry you (and the kids) have been sick. How are they feeling? Can someone else take care of them while you rest? That's key.

Uh oh, did he get it??
I had it for the first time in 25 years, about 3 years ago, once it started the fear immediately went away because it'd happening and you suddenly discover you were worrying over nothing. The fear comes right back a week later though so maybe we will get an update.
