Hello everyone. I'm new to making posts like this, but I need someone to talk to.
My wife seems to have come down from what I can assume is the stomach bug, as she is vomiting, having diarrhea, and has a low grade fever. She just started having symptoms today. I am doing my best to take care of her, but it is hard. We live in a small 1 bedroom apartment with 1 bathroom. So we share everything. I am terrified by the fact that I feel like I am guaranteed to catch the illness, and feel like a ticking time bomb. I am at an extreme level of heightened anxiety and stress, and feel even worse because I can't take care of my wife properly with my fears. I don't know what to do.

I understand how you are feeling. If my s/o came down with an sv, I don't know what I would do! It is great that you are trying to help her at all. Excellent hand washing, and bleaching all surfaces will help! Good luck!

If you survive this with out getting g sick you will bring hope to all of us.

I definitely understand your fear and I think it's great that you're making the effort to take care of her. I'm sure she really appreciates it especially knowing about your phobia and how hard it is for you. It's so easy to feel like it's only a matter of time before you get sick but you can absolutely make it through without catching anything. Some friends recently had it go through their house - wife and 5 year old daughter had it at the same time. Husband/father was caregiver (with average at best cleaning habits) and he never caught it. I have a sister with special needs. She can't even sit herself up on her own so when she comes down with a stomach bug my mom is right there, sitting her up, holding a bucket, etc. Sometimes when it first hits she can't even give warning and has just gotten sick all over herself which my mom then has to clean up. Yet my mom has cared for my sister with these bugs many times without ever catching it herself. Of course there is no guarantee that you won't catch it but there is also no guarantee that you will. If you did happen to catch it - it's going to be ok! Your wife, I'm sure, will return the favor and take care of you and as much as it will feel like the worst thing to happen, you will get through it. It'll only last for a short amount of time and then you'll be back to normal.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It really helps. My wife is usually the one that helps me calm down, but since she has not been feeling well, it's much for difficult. She is aware of my phobia, and is very nice about it. But there is only so much I can do since we live in such a small place.

Is there any way you can go out? My husband likes me to leave as he knows what I'm like. You must prepare all your own food, clean everything especially surfaces and your hands. Use different towels.

Just wanted to reassure you that it's not inevitable you will catch it. My husband has never caught a bug from me, and I only have caught one from him. Even if you did share towels, just keep your hands clean and away from your face.

I just cleaned the bathroom and am currently cleaning the clothes. I am worried being that close to the virus. At one point my gloves snapped and sprayed some water on my clothes. I'm worried during cleaning something got in my mouth somehow. My wife was sick more than 48 hours ago, and I haven't got it yet, so I thought I might be safe. But I feel like now I have to reset the clock.

Your doing great. Keep using gloves, washing your hands. I always take probiotics and purple grape juice to ward off bugs. There is evidence it works. I also take high doses of vitamin c.

Shouldn't tell ya this but I agree with the not getting it.... My boss was sick whilst at work a few weeks ago and he was back and forth from the toilet and not one other guy in our department got it! I've also been using the same towels and door handles from people in the past who have had it and at most had a stomach ache... I think you'll be ok, really. If you're not, the whole thing will be so fast you won't have to to analyse it, I'm sure you'll be strong. Hope your poor wife is ok...How awful
