I just recently found the original site but I saw it was having problems and was directed here. This all started last week when my friend's son caught the bug and v* at daycare. My son also attends the same daycare but they are not in the same room (one big room but it is split between three areas). His mom caught it two days later and then went to the daycare holiday party with all of the staff and parents! She had just left the hospital that morning! Needless to say I was fuming and upset. Called the daycare and lowkey told them not to let her anywhere near my son. So far it has been a sick-free holiday. My in-laws are in town and we are closing on a house tomorrow, yay! My manager was home sick yesterday from the bug her daughter and grandson had (same people from above) and stayed home. Now I know that a person is contagious for 48 hours and she came in within 24. I am upset. I am angry. I do not know what to do. I already take meclizine for the frequent n* that I have daily but for some reason I feel like it won't help and that I'm doomed. I have not eaten and I refuse to, which is causing my husband to get angry.
What should I do? I am washing and drowning my hands in purell every chance I get in fear that I have touched a lethal doorknob.

I completely understand your fear. It seems the bug is hitting hard right now in my area too and I personally know several people who have been sick.
The truth is that there really isn't much more that you can do. You're cleaning your area and being careful with the things you touch.
I also understand the not eating because I've done it too but you really do need to eat. Think of it this way - your body needs to be properly fed/nourished in order to be able to fight off illness. When you deprive your body of food, you're actually more likely to get sick. Eating will not make you vomit. I know emetophobia makes you think that it will but it won't. And if you were to catch the bug, vomiting with nothing in your stomach is absolutely worse than if there is food in there. So, please eat.
I try to remind people all the time that the rest of the population gets sick and then as soon as they're feeling somewhat better they go back to their daily lives. People don't wait 48 hours to go back out. I don't know anyone who does that. The reason I bring it up is to remind you that you're at this same level of possible exposure so much more than you even realize. How many times do you think you're with someone who was sick the day before but they don't mention it, you go shopping and the person who checked out before you had just gotten over a bug, you go to the bank and the teller was just out sick yesterday, etc. It's happening all the time yet you still rarely get sick, right? It's just a big pain when we know for sure someone is getting over illness because our emetophobic brains take that and run, going through every worst case scenario and making us more afraid.
Truth is, normal hand washing (every time you use the bathroom and before you eat) does a really good job of keeping us healthy.
And of course, the most important thing I can tell you: you are going to be ok! Even if you did get sick - you're going to be ok. It will not be fun, and you will hate every moment of it but you're going to be just fine. It may seem like the worst thing ever but it will be over in a short amount of time and things will be back to normal. You will totally get through this!

Thank you, Amanda. It's rare that I find someone who understands my frustration. I never really thought about other people being sick prior but I already do meticulously wash my hands when I get home from using carts anyway. I have eaten granola bars here and there today but a fight has already started over hot dogs. This probably sounds so dumb to other people but I get the shakes if I feel like I will be even remotely sick.
Again, thank you for your kind words. It means a lot to me.

I would be frustrated, too! Who wouldn't want to stay home 1 more day instead of working? I guess that's if you get sick pay. Some people don't. If society as a whole understood the trainsmission of viruses better, I think we could really make a dent in the amount of sickness that spreads. Also, hand washing. People don't know how to do it properly, or don't care to.

Just about everyone I know thinks v is no big deal and therefore they don't wash their hands and they come to work sick with the virus or the following day, whether they are recovered or not. We get 10 paid sick days per year but we are teachers and it is a lot of work to be out so most people just go to work no matter what. As a matter of fact one of my co workers actually likes to v! Weird I know but she does. My point is that people who don't have our fear will never stay gone for the right amount of time or wash their hands when they should. It's just the way it is unfortunately.
