Hello! So I am an education student currently student teaching in an elementary school music classroom. It's the only thing I picture myself doing in life, even though I know I'm at risk of catching a *sv or witnessing someone *v.
Anyways, of course there's a bug going around, as well as a bunch of other bugs, like colds and flus and whatnot. So there is one girl that came to music class today. She seemed perfectly fine, very smiley during class. She left class and I happened to eat my lunch at the same desk she was sitting in. At the end of the day, her mother who is a substitute teacher in the school came up to me and the actual music teacher and said that her daughter wound up sick in the nurses office for a lot of the day. The girl came running down the hallway crying, and her mom comforted her saying that she was going to be fine. The girl almost looked like she was crying over embarrassment. This to me suggested that she might have *v in class or something along those lines, but I'm not sure. Either way, I'm freaking out because I ate my lunch on the desk that she sat at. She was not ill while in class so I am sure if she had *v-ed, it was definitely after she came to our class. Do you think I'm at risk? Is it true that people aren't contagious with noro until after symptoms start? Thanks!

Since we didn't know what she had, it is impossible to know. I would say that exposure is possible if she was sick. I am pretty sure that sometimes these viruses can be spread just before the person is symptomatic, but it is not very likely at all. I just don't feel right telling you it isn't possible. She might have had an another type of accident...like a bathroom accident that's not v*. You never know unless you ask.
the bathroom accident I am referring to is maybe she wet herself..or something like that...would they keep a child in the nurses office for That? Probably...

It is my understanding that people are not contagious until symptoms start! While she could've had a "bathroom episode" prior to your time around her, it's not likely in my opinion that she would be acting so cheery and normal if she were having any pre-illness discomfort or symptoms such as d*. I doubt you were exposed. There have been many many times that I've been around people right before they've shown symptoms, and yet the only time I've caught something from someone I was VERY MUCH exposed - like in the same room while they were s*, using the same bathroom, sink, etc. (my emet wasn't as bad then)...I bet you'll be absolutely fine!

I've been an elementary or reception teacher as we call it in England for 20 years now. Like you, it was the only job I ever wanted. I often laugh at the fact that I hate v as it is basically about in school all the time. My assistant deals with any v as she knows I hate it. I wash my hands etc but I know I am exposed regularly, so I feel I can say with a great deal of certainty you will be fine. X
