hey all! my name is luke, and i'm emetophobe of 5 years, but these past 6 months have been HELL! i have always been emetophobic, but 5 years ago i felt the panic when i was nauseous and finally got sick, but was still on the ground shaking and crying. anyways, it's come to that time of life where i need to soon move out, and away from my home/comfort zone/life! i live in indiana, and am driving to live in outer banks North Carolina and live my life happily there as a cosmetologist. but what am i supposed to do when the panic attack arise, and i know nobody/have nobody/can't go into my parents room, etc. and what about my therapist, how am i supposed to switch over and find a good one? the therapist i have now knows me SO well and we've been practicing together for 3 years. thank you!

Hi Luke, I'm from Indiana too!!! And a cosmetologist!! How crazy! But anyway, remember your family is only a phone call away. I'm sure you'll find a great therapist in NC too! Maybe see if your therapist can find someone for you! When is it that you'll be moving?

It's interesting how we all handle these situations differently. For me, being alone and on my own is so much easier. Living with other people is more challenging for sure.
As stated above though, your family is only a phone call away. Your not truly alone just because you've moved. You'll also want to get out and make new friends which can be a big help. Who knows, you may even bond with someone else that has anxiety (even if not emetophobia, we all have so much more in common than we may initially realize)
As for a therapist it may take some trial and error but I'm sure theres a match for you in OBX. Your current therapist may even know of someone they could recommend in the area.
It's an exciting time, don't let your phobia take too much of that away.

I feel as though I can do it for a week, but I have no idea about forever!! I have stayed out with friends for days but never for like a month or so! agh... march is when I'm graduating from cosmetology, so I have enough money saved to move out and leave this small town!!!

Also from Indiana!🙋 I moved to FL about 3 years ago and it was scary. But you can call your family anytime. Good luck in your new adventure!

Good luck in your new adventure! are you liking it down there? and is the stomach bug as relevant down there as it was in Indiana every year? (I feel like stomach bug is only bad in cold winters) thank you though!

In a year and a half, I'll be moving all the way across the ocean by myself... my family is staying here, near DC, until my little sister graduates in 5 years. I'll be moving to (probably) Hamburg, where I have all of my extended family on my mom's side, but it's not the same as being able to walk down the hall to get help from my parents. I completely sympathize! I personally would advise you to get a "panic kit" together, with some long lasting BRAT foods (pretzels, Mott's Applesauce containers, etc), some essential oils (and a diffuser if possible), peppermint and ginger capsules, tums, etc... Just to know you've got everything you need if you are panicked and/or actually sick. I would also type up and print a document/pamphlet on what to do when panicking, as I know that everything just flies out of my head.
