So, my middle schooler is on a trip to D.C. this week. She is on her way back and is stuck on a bus for another 10 hours. (You can guess where this is going, huh?). When they left today, a kid on another bus started v. There are 5 busses and when they stopped for dinner they found out that there were kids on 3 of them v'ing. She just called and there are now 3 kids in HER bus v'ing! This is a nightmare! If this is noro...how the heck is it spreading like this. I know that a lot of the kids were around each other but it is a very large group and not all of them have been together. I feel so bad and I wish I could just go get her. She is stuck and upset and I hate it.

Could be fp*. Do you know what they ate?

Probably fp*. The kids must've all ate something bad. Noro wouldn't spread that rapidly, from what you are saying about time, and not that many kids would v* from the motion of the busses. Would you happen to have any idea what the kids have eaten on their trip?

Could be either or, if we are realistic. They were on a trip touring and visiting D.C. The sick kids could have easily picked up the bug randomly around the same times. It's not spreading that fast from one kid to the next but simply they could have all been exposed while on the trip. Yes could be food poisoning still but I'd assume they all pretty much ate at the same place, I know they don't like to break the groups up too much. Correct? But I feel your pain if that was my kid I'd want to drive and pick them up too (and then spray them down with Lysol đ) but on the recovery thinking of this is, she can handle this soncan you! She may never get sick from her classmates and it will be a triumph for you!

I agree with the above - those kids who came down with it could have just been together around the same time and picked it up from the same source. It's not spreading from one to the other on the bus because it doesn't happen that fast. The incubation period is not an exact number so it makes sense that the symptoms would come on in a staggered way like it is. When I had my last bug it was during graduate school and 20/23 of my classmates all had it too. Symptoms started for the first person on a Saturday morning and for the last person on Sunday morning (a 24 hour window) when we were not all together (but had been together M-F that week.) We most likely all picked it up on Friday... and came down with symptoms 24-48 hours later. Anyway, sorry to hear you're going through this. I can imagine how stressful it is! Hang in there though, you guys are going to get through it. Hopefully your daughter stays healthy but no matter what you're both going to be ok.

Nope, it was norovirus. The nurse sent out a message today. She said that some of the kids and chaperones/teachers were getting sick during the week and then it spread. They were instructed not to step foot into the school when they returned this morning.
By the end of the night, all 5 buses had kids v'ing on them. My daughter had 6 people v'ing on her's. She said she wanted to cry because she was worried it was fp and she was afraid she'd get sick on the bus.
It spreads quickly, as Amanda said above. We had it over christmas. My husband got it Wednesday evening, my oldest got it during the middle of the night Thursday. The middle child got it Friday afternoon and the youngest Friday late afternoon. I got it Saturday morning. My husband thought he was better and went to my Sister-in-law's because his brother was here visiting with his family and his mom. He went over on Sunday afternoon and by Monday the middle of the night ALL 13 of them except 1 were sick. It was crazy. Norovirus is just quick like that.

Geeeez....I am so sorry your family is dealing with this. Your poor daughter! Hang in there. She might not be affected!
You will make it through this. How's your daughter? Untraumatized?

That's horrible! I hope she doesn't catch anything. Have her wash up very throughly when she returns home after the trip. Hopefully she can stay clean while there to avoid catching it herself. I do know of times where it has spread so rapidly.

Well good news is if your daughter already had it a month ago (if she was included when you were saying your whole family had it) shes most likely not going to catch it again so shortly after getting over it... so i dont think u need to worry

This same thing happened during a trip the band at the school where I work took last year. Teachers and students were all sick either on the way home or shortly after arriving home. More than half of the group ended up getting it as well as most of the chaperones. So scary. I hope your daughter ended up being fine.

That is why I'm really afraid of a school trip to Boston that some band and orchestra students at my school, including me, are going on at the end of march this year. I love Boston, and I go there every summer for family reasons. It is my second favorite city, and I really don't want something bad to happen on the bus or anytime else. The chances of something happening are slim, and similar trips happen annually at the school with nothing happening, but I hope my anxiety doesn't keep me from enjoying myself.
